Workshops

The pace of technology has never been faster and its impact on our families and children never greater. However rather than something to be avoided or feared, come to this session to learn about some of the technologies out there and how they can be used for good rather than evil. We'll discuss strategies to maintain balance and benefit at the
various stages of childhood development.

Technology for Kids

- Ruth Morton

B

Our children live in a world of constantly changing technology and cyber-bullying. Their "heroes" are from the entertainment industry, not the space program. Entitlement seems to have replaced hard work as a road to success. Given all these issues and pressures, parents keep searching for effective ways to help their children learn respect and responsibility, values and character.

Remember the “good old days” before children when life was free and simple?  Do you remember gazing into one another’s eyes and having long, meaningful conversations about world issues or what your next car purchase needs to be?  Have you forgotten what your life partner looks like?  Has your form of communication to one another been texting or are you learning about each other’s lives via social media?  Do you feel like two ships passing in the night?  Then it’s time for you to reclaim your partnership!  Learn how to shhh the kids and have a conversation – together!  Bring back the good old days of dating without having to worry about a curfew!  This workshop will provide easy, simple solutions and tips on how to rekindle and reignite your relationship.  Time to start reconnecting and rebuilding your family’s foundation.

Food Allergies – Why Is The Prevalence Increasing and How It Is Managed

- Moshe Ben-Shoshan

B

The prevalence of food allergy is increasing world-wide and it is reported that at least 1.6% of the population will experience in the life anaphylaxis, the most severe and a potentially life-threatening food triggered allergic reaction.  Our group has conducted numerous studies assessing why the prevalence of food allergy is increasing and what the factors that may contribute to the development of food tolerance rather than food allergy.

Learn about the genetic and environmental factors associated with the development of food allergy as well as the management of individuals with food allergy.  We will also invite you and your twins to participate at the end of this workshop in a new study exploring gene environment interactions in the development of food allergy.  As part of this study we will offer screening for the gene involved in severe eczema and a screening test for celiac disease.

Workshop #2

Once we have children it is critical to consider what would happen if we were incapacitated or not here to care for the needs of our children. The best way to ensure that your children are provided for and that your estate is properly managed is to plan your estate with a  qualified lawyer.  Cherie Baruss, of Baruss Legal, will provide a concise summary of what you  need to consider and how the advance planning of your estate can avoid excessive legal costs, money that rightfully belongs to your children.
